At the 2025 Semafor World Economy Summit, Anjney Midha, General Partner at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, asserted that the United States must prioritize winning the global race in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly against China.
Midha highlighted that U.S. AI companies should focus on accelerating growth and innovation rather than being hindered by concerns over potential misuse. He cited the widespread adoption of Silicon Valley-developed tools, such as WhatsApp in India, as evidence that superior technology garners global preference.
He also noted that AI’s influence extends beyond technology, shaping cultural norms and values. As nations aim to develop sovereign AI infrastructures, Midha emphasized the importance of the U.S. leading this transformative field.
Referencing the success of China’s DeepSeek, a generative AI application that rivaled more resource-intensive U.S. models, Midha described it as America’s “Sputnik moment,” urging U.S. tech firms to expedite development efforts rather than slow down due to caution.
Midha concluded that the U.S. has no alternative but to lead in AI, given its profound impact on technology and society.
